The Luxury Kailash Tour via Lhasa is one of the most spiritually rewarding and culturally enriching journeys in the Himalayas. Organized by Trek Ways Nepal, this premium pilgrimage combines the sacred Mount Kailash Kora, the holy Lake Manasarovar, the wonders of Tibet, and comfortable travel arrangements for a seamless experience.
This extraordinary journey begins with your arrival in Tibet. Travelers joining this tour must obtain a Chinese Visa from their home country before departure. If you are unable to secure the visa beforehand, Trek Ways Nepal can arrange the visa process in Kathmandu; however, this requires an additional four working days in Kathmandu before the Tibet journey begins.
After completing visa formalities, you will take a scenic flight to Lhasa, the spiritual heart of Tibet. Situated at an altitude of 3,650 meters, Lhasa offers a perfect introduction to Tibetan culture and Buddhism. To ensure proper acclimatization, the itinerary includes a full day in Lhasa. During your stay, you will visit the magnificent Potala Palace, the former winter residence of the Dalai Lama and one of Tibet's most iconic landmarks. You will also have opportunities to explore local monasteries, bustling markets, and ancient Tibetan heritage sites.
Leaving Lhasa, the journey continues by comfortable vehicle across the vast Tibetan Plateau. Along the route, you will visit the breathtaking Yamdrok Lake, one of Tibet's most sacred and beautiful turquoise lakes. Surrounded by snow-capped peaks, the lake provides spectacular photography opportunities and unforgettable scenery. The drive then continues through traditional Tibetan settlements and high mountain passes toward Everest Base Camp in Tibet, where you can witness magnificent views of the world's highest mountain from the northern side.
Continuing westward across Tibet, you will eventually reach the sacred Lake Manasarovar, considered one of the holiest lakes in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Bon traditions. Pilgrims believe that bathing in its crystal-clear waters cleanses sins accumulated over many lifetimes. Here, you will have the opportunity to perform a traditional Havan Puja (fire ritual), offer prayers, meditate, or take a holy bath while surrounded by the awe-inspiring Himalayan landscape.
The pilgrimage then proceeds to Darchen, the gateway to Mount Kailash. From here begins the revered Kailash Kora, a three-day circumambulation around the sacred mountain. The Kora is considered one of the world's most important spiritual journeys, attracting pilgrims from across the globe. Walking through remote valleys, ancient monasteries, and crossing the high Dolma La Pass, pilgrims experience both physical challenge and profound spiritual fulfillment.
Upon completing the Kailash Kora, the tour heads toward the Nepal-Tibet border. After completing immigration formalities, a spectacular helicopter flight transports you from the border region back to Kathmandu, offering breathtaking aerial views of the Himalayas and eliminating the long overland return journey.
The Luxury Kailash Tour via Lhasa by Trek Ways Nepal is designed for travelers seeking spiritual awakening, cultural discovery, comfort, and efficient logistics. Combining Tibet's ancient heritage, Everest Base Camp, the sacred waters of Manasarovar, and the holy Mount Kailash Kora, this unforgettable pilgrimage delivers a truly once-in-a-lifetime Himalayan experience.

Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
In the morning, we begin this spiritually significant day with a sacred havan puja on the banks of Lake Manasarovar, creating a powerful and peaceful atmosphere surrounded by the Himalayan landscape. Pilgrims also have the opportunity to take a ritual holy dip (deep bath) in the lake, depending on weather conditions and local guidelines, as part of the traditional purification practice.
After completing the morning rituals and breakfast, we take a short and scenic drive of approximately 40 km towards Darchen. The journey is relatively short but deeply meaningful as we gradually move closer to the base of Mount Kailash, one of the most sacred mountains in the world. Upon arrival in Darchen, the main administrative center of the Kailash region, we check into our hotel. Darchen is a small but important settlement with basic infrastructure and serves as the official starting point of the Kailash Kora (circumambulation). It is widely regarded as the base camp of Mount Kailash, where pilgrims prepare for the sacred trek around the holy mountain. The rest of the day is free for rest, acclimatization, and final preparation before beginning the Kora journey. Overnight stay in Darchen.

Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
After an early breakfast in Darchen, we take a short drive of approximately 8 km to Yam Dwar (Yandawar), the sacred gateway and official starting point of the Mount Kailash Kora. Before beginning the trek, pilgrims have time for a short prayer, meditation, and spiritual preparation at the main gate, setting a peaceful and devotional tone for the journey ahead.
From Yam Dwar, we begin the sacred circumambulation of Mount Kailash, trekking towards Dirapuk, covering a total walking distance of approximately 12 km. The trail gradually ascends through dramatic landscapes, with stunning views of Mount Kailash appearing throughout the journey, offering moments of deep reflection and spiritual connection. This section of the trek is considered highly sacred and physically demanding due to high altitude. You are advised to walk slowly, stay hydrated, and avoid unnecessary weight. Those who find difficulty in carrying their bags can arrange yaks or horse assistance (optional and not always recommended) to reduce physical strain, especially at higher elevations.
Upon arrival at Dirapuk, located at the north face of Mount Kailash, we check into a basic guesthouse. In the evening, trekkers may enjoy a short walk nearby for sunset views and personal meditation. Overnight stay at Dirapuk.

Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Today is the most challenging and spiritually powerful day of the Mount Kailash Kora, with a total trekking distance of approximately 15 km. We start early from Dirapuk and ascend gradually towards the highest point of the journey, the sacred Dolma La Pass (5,630m). The climb is steep and demanding, but highly rewarding, offering breathtaking Himalayan views and a deep sense of spiritual accomplishment.
At the top of Dolma La Pass, you will see colorful prayer flags fluttering in the wind, symbolizing blessings, peace, and purification. After spending a short moment in reflection, we carefully descend towards the valley below, passing the sacred Gauri Kund, a holy lake associated with Goddess Parvati, where pilgrims often pause for spiritual devotion.
We continue trekking down to Zuthulpuk, the final section of the Kora route. After completing this sacred circumambulation segment, we take a short drive from the base area back to Darchen, avoiding the long road walk for comfort and safety. Upon arrival in Darchen, we check into our hotel and enjoy a well-deserved rest after completing the most significant day of the Kailash pilgrimage.

Accommodation on Luxury Kailash Tour
The Luxury Kailash Tour by Trek Ways Nepal is designed to provide the best possible comfort while traveling through remote Himalayan and Tibetan regions. In Kathmandu, guests stay in a premium 5-star hotel such as Marriott, offering world-class facilities, luxury rooms, and excellent hospitality before and after the journey. In Lhasa, accommodation is arranged in top international standard hotels such as InterContinental or Hilton, depending on availability, ensuring a comfortable and relaxing stay in the heart of Tibet. Similar high-standard hotels are also provided in Shigatse, giving travelers quality rest after long scenic drives.
In contrast, accommodation becomes more basic as we move closer to high-altitude and remote regions. At Everest Base Camp (North Side), only simple guesthouses are available due to the extreme altitude and limited infrastructure. In Saga, however, travelers can enjoy comfortable luxury-standard hotels with good facilities, offering a pleasant stopover during long drives. At Lake Manasarovar, luxury accommodation is arranged where possible, allowing pilgrims to rest in comfort near this sacred lake.
In Darchen, accommodation is provided in 4-star standard hotels or the best available local lodges, ensuring a decent level of comfort before starting the Kora. During the Kora, at Dirapuk, only very basic guesthouses are available due to the remote and high-altitude environment. Despite these simple conditions, every effort is made to ensure cleanliness, safety, and a meaningful spiritual experience throughout the journey.
Communication Facilities During Kailash Journey
During the Luxury Kailash Tour by Trek Ways Nepal, communication facilities vary significantly depending on location and altitude. In major cities such as Kathmandu, Lhasa, and Shigatse, communication is easy and reliable. Hotels usually provide stable Wi-Fi services, and mobile networks work well, making it convenient to stay connected with family, friends, or work.
As the journey moves into remote areas like Saga, Lake Manasarovar, Darchen, and along the Kailash Kora route, communication becomes limited and less reliable. Some hotels may still offer basic Wi-Fi, but speed can be slow and connections may not always be stable due to the remote Himalayan terrain and high altitude conditions. Mobile network coverage is also inconsistent in these regions.
We strongly recommend using international data roaming with a local SIM (China/Tibet SIM where applicable) for better connectivity during the travel portion of the trip. However, during the Kora (trek around Mount Kailash), network coverage is extremely limited or unavailable in many sections.
For best experience, travelers should use Wi-Fi in cities for heavy usage such as video calls and updates, while relying on mobile data for essential communication during travel days. It is also advisable to inform family and friends in advance about possible communication gaps during the trekking days for a stress-free spiritual journey.
Meals Provided
During the Luxury Kailash Tour by Trek Ways Nepal, meals are arranged according to the location and travel conditions. In Kathmandu, Lhasa, Shigatse, Everest Base Camp, and Saga, breakfast is included, with other meals available at hotels or lodges depending on the itinerary. From Saga onwards towards Lake Manasarovar and during the entire Kailash Kora until the Nepal border, full board meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) are provided.
These meals are freshly prepared by experienced Nepali Sherpa cooks, ensuring hygiene and familiar taste. The food is mainly vegetarian, with a mix of Indian and Nepali cuisine, suitable for high-altitude travel and spiritual pilgrimage. This arrangement ensures comfort, energy, and health throughout the journey in remote regions.
Emergency Support During Kailash Tour
During the Luxury Kailash Tour by Trek Ways Nepal, your safety is our highest priority, and comprehensive emergency support is available throughout the journey. In case of any medical emergency, our experienced guide will immediately contact local emergency services and arrange assistance from the nearest available medical facility.
If required, the safest option is to stabilize the situation locally and then arrange transport to the Nepal border, from where a helicopter evacuation to Kathmandu can be organized for advanced medical treatment in a well-equipped hospital. This is considered the most efficient and reliable evacuation route in serious cases.
During the Kailash Kora, if a participant is unable to continue walking, options such as hiring a horse or yak support (where available) can be arranged. Alternatively, assistance will be provided to descend to the nearest motorable road where transport can be accessed to reach Darchen or a medical point.
In Tibet, strict local regulations apply, and all emergency procedures must be coordinated through the official guide. Our guide will work closely with local authorities and police to ensure proper handling of any situation. With careful planning, communication, and support, every effort is made to ensure a safe and secure pilgrimage experience.
Visa and Permits for Kailash Tour
If you choose to obtain your China visa in Nepal, it typically takes around 3–4 working days for processing. However, to save time, it is recommended to secure your Chinese visa from your home country embassy before arrival. You should apply for an L category visa, which is suitable for entering Tibet via Lhasa from Kathmandu and continuing the Kailash journey.
Trek Ways Nepal takes full responsibility for arranging all necessary documents, including the Tibet Travel Permit and the special Mount Kailash Kora permit. These permits are essential for travel in restricted areas and will be carried by your guide for presentation at all checkpoints. We handle all paperwork to ensure a smooth and hassle-free pilgrimage experience.
What Not to Bring in Tibet
While traveling to Tibet, it is important to follow local regulations and cultural sensitivities. Travelers are strictly advised not to carry any materials related to the Dalai Lama, including books, printed photos, posters, or digital content. Such items are not permitted during the journey and may be confiscated during security checks.
You should also avoid bringing certain travel guidebooks such as Lonely Planet Tibet editions or any publications that include sensitive political or cultural content about Tibet. In addition, downloading or carrying digital materials, images, or documents related to the Dalai Lama or politically sensitive topics is not recommended.
Respecting these guidelines is essential, as Tibet has strict entry and travel regulations enforced by local authorities. Our guide will assist you in ensuring all belongings comply with local rules during check-ins and security inspections.
Trek Ways Nepal strongly advises all travelers to pack responsibly and respect local customs to ensure a smooth, safe, and trouble-free journey throughout the Kailash pilgrimage.
Currency and Money Exchange in Tibet
For the Luxury Kailash Tour, it is highly recommended to carry cash in US Dollars (USD) as it is the most widely accepted and convenient currency throughout the journey. In addition to USD, you may also exchange a small amount of money into Chinese Yuan (CNY) for local purchases where needed.
USD is commonly accepted in many places for buying mineral water, snacks, meals, and for paying for optional services such as porters, yaks, or horses during the Kailash Kora. However, having some Yuan in cash can be helpful in remote areas where USD acceptance may be limited.
Currency exchange can be done in Kathmandu before departure, or at major cities like Lhasa if required. It is advisable to carry smaller denominations for ease of transactions in rural and high-altitude regions.
ATMs are very limited along the route, and card payment facilities are not available in most areas, so carrying sufficient cash is essential. Trek Ways Nepal recommends planning your expenses in advance to ensure a smooth and hassle-free pilgrimage experience without financial inconvenience during the journey.
