Nepal–Tibet Flood Update: Kailash Mansarovar Travel Advisory
A recent glacier burst and severe flooding have caused devastating damage along parts of the Nepal–Tibet border. Villages, border infrastructure, houses, and other buildings have been washed away, affecting thousands of people. Many people remain missing, and rescue and recovery operations are continuing.
Due to the disaster, the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra route has been changed and will now operate via the Kodari Border, subject to official travel permissions and conditions. The overall number of travel days is expected to remain the same; only the route has been adjusted for safety.
Kailash Mansarovar Yatra via Kodari – 13 Days Itinerary
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu
Airport arrival, transfer to hotel, and briefing about the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.
Day 02: Kathmandu – Preparation & Sightseeing
Complete final preparations and visit important cultural and religious sites in Kathmandu. Receive a detailed briefing from the Trek Ways Nepal team.
Day 03: Kathmandu – Kodari/Tatopani – Zhangmu/Nyalam
Drive toward the Kodari–Tatopani border. Complete Nepal and Tibet immigration formalities, cross the Friendship Bridge, and continue toward Zhangmu and Nyalam, depending on border and road conditions.
Day 04: Nyalam – Acclimatization Day
Rest and acclimatization in Nyalam. A short, easy hike may be arranged to help your body adjust gradually to the increasing altitude.
Day 05: Nyalam – Saga
Drive across the spectacular Tibetan plateau toward Saga, crossing high mountain passes and enjoying views of the Himalayan landscape.
Day 06: Saga – Lake Mansarovar
Continue toward the sacred Lake Mansarovar, passing through the vast Tibetan landscape. Evening prayers and spiritual activities can be arranged according to local conditions.
Day 07: Lake Mansarovar – Darchen
Morning rituals and holy bath, subject to weather and local regulations. Continue to Darchen, the starting point of the Kailash Kora.
Day 08: Darchen – Dirapuk
Begin the Kailash Parikrama/Kora. Trek approximately 13 km toward Dirapuk. Enjoy the magnificent view of the north face of Mount Kailash.
Day 09: Dirapuk – Dolma La – Zuthulpuk
The most challenging day of the Kora. Cross Dolma La Pass and continue toward Zuthulpuk, passing the sacred Gauri Kund.
Day 10: Zuthulpuk – Darchen – Saga
Complete the final section of the Kora and return to Darchen. Continue by vehicle toward Saga.
Day 11: Saga – Nyalam
Drive back across the Tibetan plateau toward Nyalam. Overnight in Nyalam.
Day 12: Nyalam – Zhangmu – Kodari – Kathmandu
Cross the Tibet–Nepal border through Zhangmu and Kodari, complete immigration formalities, and continue by road to Kathmandu.
Day 13: Kathmandu – Final Departure
Transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport for your onward flight.
