Safety Precautions for Everest Base Camp Trek

1. Acclimatization & Altitude

Always follow a gradual ascent, do not climb more than 800m per day after Namche Bazaar. Take at least 2 acclimatization days (commonly at Namche Bazaar and Dingboche). Watch for symptoms of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), headache, nausea, dizziness, or shortness of breath. Do not ignore AMS symptoms, descend immediately if it worst.

2. Hydration & Nutrition

Drink 3–4 liters of water daily to stay hydrated. Avoid alcohol and smoking during the trek to Everest Base Camp . Eat warm, well-cooked meals and avoid raw or cold foods as well as meat.

3. Weather & Gear

Check the weather forecast before leaving each village. Carry layered clothing base layer, warm fleece/down jacket, and waterproof outer shell. Use quality trekking boots with good ankle support and waterproofing. Bring crampons or microspikes during snowy or icy conditions.

4. Health & Hygiene

Carry a personal first aid kit (include Diamox, painkillers, blister care, etc.). Use water purification tablets or filters. Keep hand sanitizer and wet wipes handy for hygiene.

5. Communication & Navigation

Always trek with a licensed local guide or porter. Carry a charged mobile phone, power bank, and local SIM (NTC or Ncell) for emergency calls. Inform your guide or team leader before leaving the group or changing plans.

6. Environmental & Trail Safety

Stay on the main trail and avoid shortcuts. Beware of yaks and porters, always stand on the mountain side when they pass. Use walking poles for balance, especially on steep or icy paths. Don’t trek alone or after dark or when trail covers with snow.

7. Travel Insurance

Make sure you have comprehensive travel insurance that covers helicopter evacuation above 5,000m.

8. Emergency Preparedness

Know the nearest medical centers (Namche, Pheriche, and Gorak Shep).In case of severe AMS or injury, descend immediately and contact your guide for helicopter evacuation.

9. Respect Local Culture

Follow local customs and monastery rules. Be polite to locals and avoid loud behavior in villages and lodges.

10. Environmental Responsibility
